Using Accessories In Your Landscaping Project

Sat ,24/10/2009
Mr.Andrew Caxton Said:

There are many things that you can use to tie together your garden design scheme. Whether natural or man-made they can help you enhance the attractiveness of your new backyard.

Useful Items For Designing Your Outdoor Space

If you look around well-landscaped garden designs you will notice that they make use of various items to enhance natural features and create focal points. Whether they double up by offering additional use options, such as garden furniture, there is plenty of choice available and it would be easy to overdo it!

Whether large or small, the landscape accessories you pick for your garden should always tie in with the design scheme that you are going for, so they do not look out of place. Larger items and elements, like for instance fences, should ideally be planned in the initial design stages while smaller pieces can usually be added on at a later date without trouble.

As well as choosing items that work in harmony with the rest of your scheme you should always make sure that you like them for themselves! This seems obvious but you should like the way an accessory look and feel in itself rather than chose an interesting option that fits with the décor but that you do not think aesthetically pleasing.

Natural items, such as made from wood, driftwood or stone, are usually rather easy to integrate in your existing garden scheme as by their very nature they will blend in more seamlessly. They come in many colors and can help create interest in your backyard as well as making the space even more pleasant and attractive.

Many garden accessories available on the market are man-made. For instance items such as decorative glass and sculptures, candlestick holders and various ornamental lighting elements can help you create an interesting and beautiful space. The resulting effect could actually look quite natural if the items are chosen carefully for how well they fit in with the rest of your scheme.

To ally use and aesthetics, you can turn to a vast selection of accessories: though some may not strictly speaking be actual ‘landscaping items’ like fences or patio surfaces they can play a significant part in enhancing the look of your backyard. Items such as pieces of outdoor furniture, pots for your plants and bird feeding devices all fit into this dual purpose idea. As such it is worth noting that they need to be useful, well integrated in your scheme and pleasing to the eye to fulfill their role as landscape accessories.

There are indeed many things to keep in mind when putting the finishing touches to an outdoor design. The key thing is not to cross the fine line between accessorizing and cluttering! Sometimes less is more and picking suitable accessories in the right quantities to complement the scheme will result in a more enjoyable backyard.

Yet, it’s best featuring is how it gently swings back and forth, exuding a feeling of calm, welcoming you and any of your guests to sit down for a bit, relax and swing your all your worries away. Whether it’s a warm night during the summer months sipping on chilled lemonade or iced tea, or a beautiful fall night where the air is crisp and cool, one is just right for all occasions.

Plus, garden swings would fit in well pretty much anywhere. One of the most popular places to put one is under your porch overhang in the front of your house. After a tough day at the office, you can just sit down and take in the sights and the sounds of the neighborhood. Another great spot is putting one under a tree in your backyard space, which was touched upon earlier. During lawn games with your family, it offers everyone a lovely place to take a breather.

Really, this is essential since if you get one that isn’t built right, then you are going to be out of luck when it breaks down under the elements. Okay, so a few of the nicer options include synthetic materials like thick polymers and plastics and with sturdier woods including Shorea, Redwood, Northern White Cedar, and Teak. Each is strong and will last for many, many years in any outdoor setting.

Cindy Heller Said:

If you feel that your garden is too plain, then you can improve its appearance by adding attractive outdoor accessories. Some outdoor furniture, beautiful statues, and unique garden ornaments will brighten up your outdoor space so it will appear much more enjoyable.

An accessory that you should consider is the one that can attract wildlife creatures. A bird house is perhaps the easiest way to attract these wildlife creatures. This simple structure can serve as a beautiful accessory in the garden while also provides an essential space for birds to nest it. This is a good approach to bring life to your garden and make it more cheerful.

Nowadays the design of bird house has improved significantly. There are various designs that you can choose depending on your preference and budget. There is also a trend that demands the bird house to appear like a normal outdoor accessory. In spite of its external appearance, it still has a chamber that allows birds to nest in.

One example of bird houses that appear like an accessory is the lantern bird house. It still maintains its function as a bird house, but it also appears unique and nothing like the traditional bird house that you may see in your grandparents’ yard. A lantern bird house actually appears like an oil lantern on a post. If you place a lantern bird house, you will surprise how it will change the appearance of your garden. This is a good idea to add charm to the garden without blowing up your budget.

If you want to go further in decorating your garden, you should consider creating a decorating theme. There are many themes that you can choose to incorporate the lantern bird house. One of the most common themes in this case is the city street theme. You can modify your garden to appear like a section of a city. Perhaps you can make the garden path to resemble a sidewalk. You can add street signs and flower pots for authenticity. Then you can place the lantern bird house to be a streetlight somewhere in the corner.

This is only one option that you can consider. There are many other themes that you can choose and still use the lantern bird house as a part of the theme. If you want to find out more themes, then you should browse around the internet. There are a lot of online resources that will help you to come up with interesting themes to decorate your outdoor space. Once you select the theme that you like and put it in place, you will surprise how your garden has changed. It will become the envy of the neighborhood.

Create Stunning Container Garden Designs

Sat ,19/09/2009
Marion Stewart Said:

You certainly have a feeling of great abundance with you see plant-packed containers on your deck, patio or in your garden. There is nothing like container gardens to link the indoors and outdoors between home and garden. Today, we all want to see out outdoor space turned into a wonderful new addition to our homes.

After choosing the right planters, pots and containers from a wide range of materials, styles, colors and sizes, the time is right to think about what you are going to put in the planters and where to place them.

You can use your planters, urns and pots in many areas. Think about where they would be best – to set off your doorway or deck entrance, to hide unsightly utility areas or storage spaces, or to show off the best views on your deck, garden or patio. You can move your containers around to capture the afternoon shade, provide protection from wind and to avoid those extreme hot spots in summer heat. Do plan to enjoy those fragrant plants and always have them close to your seating areas, or to brush against next to walkways. A rule of thumb, buy larger planters than you think you may need, small little pots will get lost in the space and never achieve that WOW look in the area.

We know that we need to plant containers properly and of course to water when needed. Now to get started! Pick containers that will handle the size of the plants you are considering. You can contrast large and small containers together for a stunning effect. Annuals and bulbs are very popular choices for pots and planters.

When you are ready to plant, fill the containers to within about three inches from the top and gently firm down the soil. Set the plants you have chosen and place on top of the soil and then step back and visualize how they will look when they fill out and create an overall view. Containers that will sit next to a wall or fence position the tallest plants at the back of the planter and surround with other plants. When you have large containers or when they will be seen from all sides, set the tallest plants in the middle and surround with the other plants.

Once you are pleased with the temporary arrangement, dig out holes with your trowel or your hands and set the plants in place. Gently firm the soil around each plant. Be sure to leave three inches from the top of the pot to allow for proper watering. When planting, a good tip is to make sure that the roots of the plants are very damp or wet before planting. Then water your container thoroughly when you have completed your arrangement.

Now is the time to move your garden planters and containers to create the overall look that you would like to achieve in the chosen space. It is always a good idea to keep the sun loving plants together and separate from the shading loving ones. Don’t make any combination too upright or too sprawly, have a good mix of both – one will enhance the look of the other.

Mix large containers with the small ones, arrange in groupings. Place one or two on plant stands to create a focal point in your arrangement. You may wish to cruise around your neighborhood, go to garden centers or even view the latest magazines to do some creative stealing for more design ideas.
